|The Cyclopedia Map|
|Unlock additional information on the Cyclopedia Map|
Are you ready for the first dev note in 2018?
In this dev note we would like to inform you about our first ideas and hear what you think about it.
We would like to integrate a world map into the Cyclopedia, where you can unlock detailed information about different areas and NPCs.
In addition to the map, we have been thinking about a new portal system that allows faster travel within a certain area. Those portals need to be activated first by using special items and can then, for a certain amount of gold, be traversed to reach certain places more quickly.
Please read through the dev note for more information and details and take a look at the mockup pictures in the corresponding announcement to get a better impression of the Cyclopedia Map.
Afterwards, please answer the questions provided in the first comment.
The dev note is going to be active till January 22, 10:00 CET.
We plan to implement a map of Tibia's surface similar to the one on our website to the Cyclopedia.
In order to give you a better impression of our vision, we have prepared some mockups.
Please keep in mind that the final design and artwork are most likely going to be changed in the development process.
As you can see, the Cyclopedia Map is basically subdivided in different areas and sub-areas (mockup 1). Similar to the minimap, you can also zoom in and out.
All areas and places on the surface which you have already discovered on your minimap will also be revealed on the Cyclopedia Map.
Within each area a new, special creature will spawn regularly close to a player. This creature will not deal any damage but may run away from you.
Finding and killing such creatures will raise a personal counter that allows you to unlock further details like NPC positions (mockup 2) or entrances to hunting grounds and dungeons (mockup 3) in that map area.
In addition, each player can place individual markers on his Cyclopedia Map. Premium account players can use a larger number and different categories of markers as free account players.
In each city you will find a new portal that serves as a portal node to reach portals which are scattered in the surrounding sub-areas. All portals are non-functional at the beginning. To use a portal node, your character needs to activate it with special items. Those items can be obtained in boss fights or as quest rewards, for example. In addition, you can also purchase a limited amount of those items via the Store every day.
You can use a node to travel to a connected portal that you have already activated as well.
For a certain amount of gold, you can now travel faster to a sub-area. The exact amount of gold that has to be paid each time you travel between a node and a connected portal, depends on your character level.
You can also use the above mentioned special items to unlock a temporary free-of-charge usage of a portal node and its corresponding sub-area portals.
Similar to travelling via boat or magic carpet, you will not be able to use the portal system if your character has a protection zone block or an active battle sign, for example.
How do you like the general idea of a Cyclopedia Map and a portal system? What do you like? What do you dislike?
Which marker categories would you like to see?
Which of the following options would you prefer any why?
A: The map should display monsters you can run across in an area or sub-area.
B: The map should not display monsters you can run across in an area or sub-area.
Please rate your overall level of satisfaction with this set of ideas as presented on a scale from 1 (not satisfied at all) to 5 (extremely satisfied).
Do you have any suggestions or concerns you would like to share concerning the overall idea?
